Hi John:
What do you mean by Giza, the complex? Structures in Giza other than the Sphinx? If so, which ones? I was not aware of that.
What I knew was that the base of Sphinx is about 12.500 years old.
For a lot of people not familiar with Ancient Egypt, the present day “Great Sphinx” was built during the 4th dynastic period under the Pharaoh Khafre and probably represents his likeness. It was built on previous sphinxes, other building, or monument. Khafre ruled Egypt around 4.500 years ago. The earliest of Egyptian Civilization can be traced to the Naqada pre-dynastic period, which is 6.000 year old and the Badarian pre-dynastic period, which is roughly 7.500 old. In addition, Ancient Historians and Archaeologists have concluded that the earliest known civilizations started around 5.000 - 6.000 years ago in Mesopotamia and the Yellow River in China. Here we are talking about a possible civilization twice as old than previously thought.
John, traditional Archaeologists or Egyptologists are very conservative in nature – they are the victim of their own world and knowledge. They cannot accept new theories because it is like admitting that they spent their lifetimes pursuing wrong theories. We can, because we have not spent our lifetimes pursuing wrong theories. We are just weekend warriors! However, they do provide an invaluable service by putting up a “Firewall” and thus preventing so many loony theories to come forward. On the other hand, they also slow down progress.
Before we jump up and down in elation, we also have to keep in mind that Badarian Period can also span 700.000 to 4.000 BC with its most dynamic period starting around 5.500 BC. In other words, the Badarian period is a catchall to encompass all three Stone-Age periods and then some.
Not all groups of people develop at the same time and it could be that the base of the Sphinx was built by a rather advanced people in the Badarian that we have lost knowledge of. One reason could be that the Ancient Egyptians built on top of them. However, if that is the case, then Egypt’s history is much longer than we ever imagined.
I think that you believe in “humanities.” Who knows? I am more of a traditionalist with an open mind.
Best regards,
Evil Kondor
btw: Hector, the Giza complex appears to be at least 13500 years old. though Zawi Hawas will always deny the fact.
