I would welcome suggestions on this idea. Argentina should be donated a stretch of Land from the Severn Bridge to the Pembroke Coast. As long as we can close the bridge and put a large wall up. Apparently Argentina has a large Welsh ex-pat community. And its bigger. And there are lots of sheep. The Argentines like Penguins, the Welsh LOVE sheep. Compatible or what? Job done. Sound fair?

Actually, there may be a better alternative. UK owns an island, in UK territorial waters, which I think could be exchanged for the F.I. and I believe there would be little or no argument. If, say Rockall, were exchanged for East & West Falkland, in toto, vis-a-vis complete ownership, this may present a solution

Maybe we should swop Monseratt, its a much more happening plavce with a hot nightlife! Perhaps Germany could offer Helgoland, if it helps. It was originally British until the late 19th century, but since then is German, and no bloody good as it cost us much money.

No. We British lay claim to it. It's our and we will never ever drop our claim to it. Why ? Ask the Argentinians, they will explain.

No. We British lay claim to it. It's our and we will never ever drop our claim to it. Why ? Ask the Argentinians, they will explain. Jesse: It would be better if you would familiarize yourself a bit with the issues of the dispute before making empty sarcastic comments. I’ll give you a brief historical synopsis: - 1769 – Great Britain abandoned the Falklands, a disputed territory with Spain, because of economic reasons.
- The Islands were governed from the Viceroyalty of the River Plate (Present Day Argentina under Spain) with a series of Governors appointed by the Viceroy.
- 1811 – The Last Governor appointed by the Spanish Viceroy in Buenos Aires of the Islands left because Argentina declared its independence from Spain in 1810 and was not longer under the orders from the Government in Buenos Aires.
- 1820 – Argentina sent an expedition to explore and officially take possession of the Islands as part of our territory inhereted from Spain.
- 1821 – Argentina advertised in European papers, including the London Times, about its possession of the Malvinas. The British council or representative based in Buenos Aires, was very aware of this.
- 1823 – Great Britain officially recognizes Argentina as a country with all its territory including Malvinas.
- 1825 – Great Britain and Argentina sign the Commerce, Navigation, and Friendship treaty where Great Britain again recognizes Argentina and the integrity of all its territory which included the Malvinas.
- 1829 – Argentina settles the Malvinas and Luis Vernet is the Governor.
- 1833 – Great Britain forcibly occupies the Malvinas and expels at gunpoint the Argentine population of the Islands (no self-determination applied here.) Argentina never accepted, what we view, the illegal occupation of our territory. Furthermore, the new government in the now called Falklands instituted an immigration policy that has excluded Argentines from settling in the Falklands.
- 1965 to Present Day – Three UN Resolutions and numerous ones from the UN Decolonization Committee (C-24) has called upon the governments of Great Britain and Argentina to settle the dispute through negotiations, something that Great Britain has refused to do breaking the treaty with the UN as well as the 1823 and 1825 treaties with Argentina.
As you can see, ours is not exactly a mindless claim when you learn more about the history behind it. Best regards, Evil Kondor
